ABOUT ME & MY ART
My name is Simona, an independent international artist originally from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and currently residing in Muenster, Germany.
While my academic background is rooted in Art History and Italian Language, the creation of visual art in my home atelier has always been an integral part of my life. The perpetual quest to expand my knowledge in art history propels my artistic practice forward, and the two endeavors continually enrich each other.
In many of my works, I contemplate our timeless fascination with the painted or sculpted human form. Utilizing primarily ink, watercolor and oil paint, I aim to share and explore universal human experiences that underlie the compulsion to create figurative art, touching on themes such as voyeurism, trauma, anxiety, intimacy, and mortality.
Yet, there are moments when I crave a more unfiltered expression, prompting me to delve into landscape or, sometimes, abstract painting. My ultimate goal is to discover a personal method of seamlessly merging these seemingly opposing realms—the figurative and the abstract—creating a new way to depict psychological conditions that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Much of my recent artwork explores the meditative state as a pathway to self-improvement and overcoming anxious states. I use concrete natural elements imbued with personal symbolic meaning, which, through repetition in my work, have become keys to accessing a meditative state. These elements serve as subtle reminders that we hold the power to free our minds from limiting thought patterns and unlock our full potential.
